Contemporary Indian residential courtyard architecture with natural stone and daylight

Prantoshil Architect · Indian Architectural Practice

Architecture
rooted in light & life.

We design private residences, courtyard villas and boutique environments across India — bringing together site climate, authentic materials, and the unhurried rituals of everyday life.

01Philosophy

Indian Architectural Practice

Architecture shaped
by climate & craft.

Prantoshil Architect approaches residential, villa, and commercial architecture as an intimate study of place, climate, and the human condition. We reconcile centuries of Indian architectural wisdom — the central courtyard, deep verandas, perforated jaalis — with clean contemporary lines and quiet materiality.

Based out of our studio at Gaur City Mall, our projects across northern India stand as enduring sanctuaries that gain character and noble patina as decades pass.

Explore the Practice
01

Climate & Context

Every commission responds to site geometry, sun paths, monsoon deluges and northern Indian seasonal extremes through passive cooling and thermal mass.

02

Authentic Craft

We collaborate with local stonemasons, carpenters and metal artisans to celebrate Dholpur stone, seasoned timber, exposed brick, and hand-troweled lime.

03

Everyday Rituals

Our spaces are organized around real Indian domestic life — multi-generational gatherings, morning tea in the courtyard, and transitions into quiet garden pockets.

Discipline 01

Courtyards &
Villa Architecture.

We design homes that do not compete with their surroundings, but instead grow naturally out of their topography, climate, and the domestic rituals of the Indian families who inhabit them.

The Indian Aangan (Courtyard)

Reinterpreting the traditional central court as a thermal engine that exhausts rising summer heat and channels cool ambient breezes into living zones.

Deep Chhajjas & Solar Screens

Engineered stone jaalis and deep structural overhangs protect expansive glass from scorching direct sunlight while keeping interiors luminous.

Discipline 02

Interior
Architecture.

We treat interiors not as decorative veneer applied after construction, but as the intimate tactile continuation of the architectural shell.

Daylight Choreography

Indirect ceiling reveals, shadow-gap details, and sheer linen drapery sculpt daylight into a calm, glare-free presence from dawn until twilight.

Custom Indian Joinery

Seamless floor-to-ceiling pivot doors, handcrafted teakwood millwork, bookmatched natural stone, and hand-patinated brass fittings.

Tactility & Regional Craft

Authentic
materiality.

We reject synthetic veneers and transient decorative trends. By working with authentic Indian mineral stone, timber, lime, and patinated metals, our spaces acquire dignity rather than decay.

Dholpur & Kota Stone

Rajasthan & Northern India

Locally quarried sandstones and limestones with hand-chiseled, flamed, and leathered textures that weather gracefully under northern rain and sun.

Board-Formed Concrete

Tactile Monolithic Mass

In-situ concrete cast with natural pine grain boards, leaving permanent organic grain imprints across thermal perimeter wall planes.

Artisanal Indian Joinery

Seasoned regional hardwoods naturally resistant to humidity shifts, crafted into seamless pivot portals, lattice screens, and sunshades.

Natural Chuna Plaster

Natural Chuna Plaster

Traditional Lime Plaster

Breathable mineral lime-wash and micro-cement surfaces that diffuse sunlight softly, regulate indoor humidity, and age with noble patina.

Architectural Manifesto

Architecture is not
simply what we build.
It is what remains.

It is the morning sunlight washing across Kota stone floors, the gentle breeze moving through an open courtyard, and the quiet dignity that greets you every time you return home.

Architectural Method

From first sketch
to living space.

Architecture requires both poetic vision and rigorous technical execution. Our 4-stage methodology guarantees complete clarity at every milestone.

01

Site & Climate Immersion

Understand

We begin by analyzing topography, sun paths, wind directions, municipal bylaws, and the unique everyday rituals of the family.

02

Spatial Concept & Aangan

Imagine

Ideas crystallize into clear spatial strategies through volumetric models, courtyard studies, and iterative daylight simulations.

03

Materials & Detailed Engineering

Develop

Refining the design through millwork joinery details, structural coordination, tactile stone physical boards, and photorealistic CGI.

04

On-Site Quality Oversight

Realize

Regular site administration, contractor quality auditing, and artisanal coordination to ensure the built reality honors the concept.
